The Peoples Powerhouse
A Convention for all the people who will deliver growth in the North
The first Peoples Powerhouse Convention is a collective response to unmistakable interest, enthusiasm and support for a much wider dialogue about how we all have a role to play to create growth in the North. The Peoples Powerhouse aims to shine a light on how we all work together to create good and inclusive growth in the North.
We are sending a clear signal to Government and policy makers that, whilst essential, a skewed focus on business deals, transport and property without mention of people, skills or communities will not create the kind of step change we need to see, nor will it create the kind of North we all want to live, work or do business in.
People who have the opportunity to flourish are what good and inclusive growth is all about. It is their skills and talents that will be mobilised, as employees, business leaders, entrepreneurs, parents, community organisers and activists. People are vital to economic growth. The fewer people who are not in work or who are on low earnings, the less able we are to grow our GDP and close the productivity gap.
Our aim is to build a long term movement for change that supports good and inclusive growth in the North and our particular focus will be on how people are the key. As such, our dialogue will be inclusive of all sectors and sections of the community and this includes harnessing the combined skills and leverage of the public sector, voluntary, community, civic leaders, individuals and business.
What will the Peoples Powerhouse Convention comprise of?
A good local economy is stronger when it is inclusive; when it’s civic, public, business and social sectors collaborate to create social impact. We need to re-frame the debate from the physical and infrastructure, to people and places. We want to involve people who are already shaping solutions that work and enable them all to take ownership of the issues and solutions of the future.
Who is it for?
All those who can deliver inclusivity and growth in the north; a chance to contribute, learn, ask, design, gain insight, understand, share ideas, co-design. It’s for you if you want to be part of creating a new #peoplespowerhouse vision!
This is a not for profit event. Any surplus income will be re-invested in to future aims and objectives to support Peoples Powerhouse activities which could benefit all of us, support future subsidised events and possibly be gifted to social impact projects.
