A Doncaster family have set up a fundraising family fun event at Yorkshire Wildlife Park to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust following their son’s diagnosis with the condition.
Lian Boyle and Jay Trueman, from Wheatley Hills, will host a huge party with entertainment for all ages at the Tsavo Lodge at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on September 30.
Lian explained: “Our son Henry was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was three weeks old, following the routine heel prick test that all newborns have. To say it came as a huge shock would be an understatement. We were floored by the news and made the mistake of Googling the condition and reading lots of information that really scared us.
“Henry is now two years old and he is doing great. He is a lovely, funny, energetic little boy who keeps us very entertained. We’ve learned so much about the condition since the initial diagnosis and it is fantastic to hear how much research has improved treatments and had such a positive impact on people’s lives, but there is still so much more to do.
“We had wanted to fundraise for the CF Trust for some time, but needed to find the right way of doing this.”
Approximately 9000 people in the UK suffer from Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic condition that affects most parts of the body, but most notably the lungs and digestive system.
Jay said: “We’ve been so impressed by the way that friends and businesses from across Doncaster have pulled together to offer their help and support with this event.
“We had originally thought about doing a ball but we wanted to do something that Henry and his four year old sister Emma could attend and enjoy and thought a family event would be great fun.
“Our huge thanks go to Thomson Reuters, Stratstone MINI Doncaster and Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust who are sponsoring the event and to everyone who has donated raffle and auction prizes.”
The event, ‘Rock n’ Roar 2017 will take place on September 30 from 5pm until 12am, there will be entertainment from Kapow who will be bringing Superheroes to the party, music from the Victoria Shakes, Carnival Games and an online auction, raffle and much more fun..
“We are hoping that lots of families from across Doncaster will support us and come to what is going to be a great event. We know it is early days with Henry’s experience of this condition and we don’t know what is around the corner, but he has an amazing team at the CF Unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital , who have supported us in all ways from day one. They have provided the support we need and are at the end of the phone if we have any queries. We need to ensure that other families who are receiving a diagnosis get access to support and can learn about the positive stories out there.
“There is so much we can do to make a difference, but for now we want to raise money and have some fun as a family and we would love people to join us,” added Lian.
