Did you know that over half of workplaces are missing out because they are excluding disabled talent? Could you be one of them?
Did you also know that only 8% of disabled people use a wheelchair and many disabilities are hidden? 83% of people acquire their disability while in work and one in six lose their jobs as a result.
More and more businesses are signing up to Disability Confident every week.
So what is it? The scheme helps employers think differently about disability and improves how they can attract, recruit and retain disabled workers. It is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives.
Why should I sign up?
Disability Confident businesses play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They are already changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities.
The scheme helps employers:
- draw from the widest possible pool of talent
- secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
- improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that all employees are treated fairly
- It demonstrates and identifies those employers who are committed to equality in the workplace.
Even if you don’t have any current job vacancies, would you consider providing a work placement for someone? This would help a disabled person demonstrate their abilities and help build the resilience and behaviours they need to succeed.
