A community training café has welcomed a new member of staff who has swapped nursery nursing for the chance to learn barista skills.
Sheree Swift has joined the team at The Hot Chocolate Lounge in Denaby where she is learning the art of coffee-making and catering in a part-time role that fits in with her other commitments.
The mum-of-two from Bolton-on-Dearne, spent many years working with children after leaving school in Mexborough but said she was keen to try something totally different. She has since introduced new customers to The Hot Chocolate Lounge including her two daughters who have quickly become fans of its milkshakes and Belgian hot chocolates.
Sheree explained: “I was ready for a new challenge and also wanted to get out and mix more with people. I know the café is a popular meeting place for people in Denaby and it’s great to have somewhere like this for them to get together. I’ve already told my friends and family about it and quite a few of them have visited.”
Café manager Jo Patton said Sheree was a great addition to the team and a very quick learner. “I’m really impressed with how fast she’s picking things up after just a couple of weeks and we’re really pleased to have her,” she added.
Sheree will soon complete an in-house barista course and update her food hygiene qualification with the chance of further training in future.
As well as investing in its own staff, The Hot Chocolate Lounge will soon be offering new training opportunities, including barista skills, to members of the public. To find out more, call into the café in Grays Court or telephone 01709 296790.
The Hot Chocolate Lounge, which is run by Doncaster West Development Trust (DWDT) and funded by the Big Lottery, is open Monday to Friday from 9am serving breakfasts, light meals, cakes and refreshments.
