The setting of a traditional village cricket club, warm sunny weather and two teams of players drawn from local businesses proved to be a winning formula as almost four hundred people turned out to watch this year’s DB4C TFG Capital Community Vase Cricket Challenge and raise a record £5,500 for local charities.
DB4C had confirmed earlier in the year that Tickhill Cricket Club would, for the first time host their annual cricket challenge, now in it’s third year and the move proved to be an inspired one having been positively welcomed by local businesses with record levels of sponsorship and early player registrations.
On Sunday 8th September and under a cloudless sky the Commercial Legends (sponsored by HSR Law) and the Business All-Stars (sponsored by Polypipe) took to the field to do battle in a 20/20 format for the now coveted DB4C TFG Capital Community Vase with the Commercial Legends running out as eventual winners in yet another closely contested match which kept the crowd entertained throughout.
The annual cricket challenge was the very first event to be organised by DB4C, the ground breaking and highly innovative charitable trust established in 2017 and run entirely by the town’s business community which raises much needed funds for local charities and community projects. As with all of DB4C’s growing number of sporting events the cricket challenge has gone from strength to strength with a tried and tested format and with players drawn solely from across Doncaster’s business community and all eager to raise funds for local causes whilst demonstrating their sporting prowess.
This year’s beneficiaries, Create A Dream and The Hygiene Bank, were also on hand throughout the day with an army of volunteers ensuring that the event was a success.
The “Champagne Moment Award” went to Gary Rogers of the Business All-Stars for an amazing one handed catch on the boundary. Gary, who is also a DB4C Director said:
“What a fantastic day! We could not have wished for a better venue, weather and turnout from so many people, which have raised so much money for two very worthy local causes. We owe a debt of gratitude to them and to our sponsors TFG Capital, HSR Law and Polypipe.”
DB4C Chairman Tim Shaw added:
“Once again DB4C has showcased how sport can bring the local business community together whilst raising funds for charity and promoting the importance and value of physical exercise. On behalf of the DB4C team I would like to thank the players, sponsors, spectators, the charities, Tickhill Cricket Club and our Cricket Task Team for ensuring we delivered another hugely successful event. See you next year at this and our other forthcoming events.”
