Doncaster Business for the Community is to hold it’s inaugural 11-a-side football challenge for business owners, “The Doncaster Business Community Cup” on 25 May at the Keepmoat Stadium. And in another first, the match will be played under floodlights.
DB4C, a charitable trust formed by representatives of local businesses to benefit the communities of Doncaster is not yet a year old and has already successfully raised funds through a number of events including a 20-20 Charity Cricket match and an inter-company 5-a-side challenge.
This new and unique event sponsored by The Crown Hotel Bawtry, will involve two squads of 18 players who will contest the Cup over 90 minutes with penalties being the decider should scores be level at full time and will provide each player with a truly professional footballer experience from training, under the guidance of coaches from Doncaster Rovers FC, which starts at the end of February to a pre-match training game to be held at Doncaster Rovers Cantley Training Ground.
Shaun Lockwood, group head of marketing and communications at Club Doncaster said: “The Doncaster Businesses for the Community match, will kick off our four day Festival of Sport at Keepmoat Stadium, which will include a large junior tournament, women’s football and our inaugural Club Doncaster Foundation Awards. Playing on the pitch at Keepmoat Stadium is a fantastic experience and having this match under floodlights will make the occasion even better. I’m sure the match will be a great start to a fantastic festival of football and sport.”
DB4C Trustee, Anthony Temperton said: “This is a truly ground breaking event and a great partnership with Doncaster Rovers FC and Club Doncaster Foundation. Those who sign up will have the opportunity of playing in a competitive match at the stadium whilst doing their bit for charity in the local community.
“At DB4C we are not just about supporting local causes and charities, we are also about improving the health and wellbeing of business employers and their staff throughout the Doncaster area and this is an excellent example of our work.”
Doncaster Rovers FC Chief Executive, Gavin Baldwin said: “The Doncaster Business Community Cup is a fantastic event raising valuable funds for the local community and we’re delighted to be hosting the match at the Keepmoat Stadium. Having the opportunity to play on the same pitch used by players from Doncaster Rovers, The Dons and The Belles is a unique experience, which will only be enhanced by playing the game under floodlights with your family and friends watching.”
Business owners from around Doncaster have already signed up to be a player on one of the teams so places are limited. DB4C are currently taking registrations of further players to take part and the cost is just £250 per player and this includes: 12 weeks training up to the event, full kits with name & number on the back (for you to keep), participation medal, great match experience, ticket for the Player of the Season Dinner to be hosted by the match sponsors, The Crown Hotel Bawtry, networking with other like-minded business owners, and finally a chance to do your bit for charity in the local community.
