The 2019 DB4C Business Community Cup will take place on Friday 31st May at The Keepmoat Stadium and will once again be played under floodlights with an early evening kick-off.
Last year saw the first such event as the two teams, The Business All Stars and The Commercial Legends, competed for the trophy with players drawn from businesses across Doncaster and watched by hundreds of supporters. The match formed the kick off event for the Doncaster Rovers FC and Club Doncaster Foundation Festival of Football and this year the event will form part of a series of events in the month long Festival of Sport. In addition, the DB4C 5-a-side Shields will move to May as part of the Festival of Sport and once again will be open for teams from Doncaster based companies in both men’s and women’s competitions.
In a new and exciting development the teams will be managed by two former Doncaster Rovers legends, Tim Ryan and Jan Budtz, and will involve two squads of 18 players who will contest the Cup over 90 minutes with penalties being the decider should the scores be level at full time. Each player will enjoy a truly professional footballer experience from training, under the guidance of coaches from Doncaster Rovers FC, which starts at the end of February to a pre-match training game to be held at Doncaster Rovers Cantley Training Ground.
Another new development will see two players drawn from a raffle of Doncaster Rovers’ fans and the lucky winners will have what will probably be a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at the Keepmoat Stadium.
And to ensure there is entertainment for the hundreds of supporters we are delighted to announce that local indie rock and roll band “The Outcharms” will be playing a setlist before kick off on the pitch.
After releasing latest single “Talk” they have thousands of monthly listeners and regular sell out venues wherever they play. When asked to be involved a spokesman for the band said, “It’s an honour to be able to support the Doncaster Business Community Cup and its associated charities.”
Shaun Lockwood, group head of marketing and communications at Club Doncaster said:
“Last year’s Doncaster Business Community Cup was a great success, hosted under the floodlights at Club Doncaster for the first time ever. We are delighted to again work in partnership with DB4C and to be able to offer the opportunity for local employers to support community causes by entering players into the match.”
DB4C Director and Trustee, Anthony Temperton added:
“This is a truly great event and a great partnership with Doncaster Rovers FC and Club Doncaster Foundation. Those who sign up will have the opportunity of playing in a competitive match at the stadium, being coached and managed by former football professionals and doing their bit for charity in the local community.”
“At DB4C we are not just about supporting local causes and charities, we are also about improving the health and wellbeing of business employers and their staff throughout the Doncaster area and this is an excellent example of our work.”
Once again business people from around Doncaster have already signed up to be a player on one of the teams so places are very limited. DB4C are currently taking registrations of further players to take part and the cost is just £250 per player and this includes: 12 weeks training up to the event, full kits with name & number on the back (for you to keep), participation medal, great match experience, ticket for the DB4C Annual Awards Dinner in November to be hosted by the match sponsors, The Crown Hotel Bawtry, networking with other like-minded business people, and finally a chance to do your bit for charity in the local community (Terms & Conditions of participation will apply, please contact DB4C for further details and to reserve your place).
Registrations are also being taken for the Business Community Shields 5-a-side competition and further details are available through the DB4C website and our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.
