Doncaster Chamber launches business support programme

Launchpad, which the Chamber operates for Doncaster Council, offers a fully inclusive range of business advice and resources to help create hundreds of new businesses and jobs across the borough over the next three years.

The programme is for people who may not have even thought about setting up their own business or have been thinking about working for themselves but aren’t sure how to go about it, as well as companies that have been trading for up to two years and are looking to grow.

A team of business advisers are helping participants to talk through their business aims, discuss their needs and signpost them to the most appropriate support provided by Doncaster Chamber and the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub including workshops, seminars, one-to-one coaching and mentoring services.

The Launchpad’s pre-start business support provides people with an understanding of the skills required to run a business and whether it’s right for them to pursue. They can attend business start-up workshops for help with business planning, book keeping, cash forecasting and business registration.

They can then join other firms who have been trading for up to two years in accessing post-start-up support for managing their business including one-to-one advice, peer mentoring, and workshops. All businesses enrolled with Launchpad become members of Doncaster Chamber and have access to even more services and benefits including free networking events, trainings and HR & legal advice.

Businesses who are keen to grow and create jobs can also be moved onto the Accelerator Programme for further support.

“Launchpad is a fully comprehensive business support programme that opens up an entire world of opportunities and contacts for so many entrepreneurs across Doncaster,” says Dan Fell, CEO, Doncaster Chamber. “There are lots of people who don’t yet realise that becoming self-employed is an option but with the right idea and support it could be their best career decision yet. The vast range of services will help people to overcome any skills and knowledge barriers and pursue their ambitions to own their own business and grow.”

Doncaster Council’s Cabinet member for Business and Skills, Cllr Bill Mordue, said: “We are committed to supporting businesses to grow, and Launchpad will be a really valuable asset to help us achieve this. Working in partnership with Doncaster Chamber, our Business Doncaster team works tirelessly to help develop local businesses and this is another way we are offering our support.”

Under the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub banner and their new services, Launchpad is being delivered across the region by different business support organisations and local authorities, under the leadership of Barnsley Council’s business support arm, Enterprising Barnsley.

The initiative is backed financially by the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority and has attracted £2,359,613 investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Union’s support for the region’s economic development.
