Doncaster Council will be attending MIPIM in Cannes from the 12th to 16th March as part of a strong Sheffield City Region delegation showcasing a range of developments across the borough aimed at stimulating further private sector investment and interest from developers.
Doncaster is in a very strong place, regeneration and investment wise at present. 2017 has seen a record number of recorded investments at over £250 million with the highlights being new builds for Amazon, Hitachi Rail and the new National College for High Speed Rail.
Over 1200 new jobs have been created across a range of business sectors with Doncaster now being in the top five cities in the UK for improved business growth.
Recent years has seen the market for new homes in Doncaster go from strength to strength and outperform many larger and neighbouring authorities. 2015/16 saw 1170 new homes completed across all market sectors with a further 1057 completions in 2016/17.
So far this year (2018) has seen 893 new homes delivered with forecasts indicating full year end completions will be in excess of 1000 new homes for a record third year running. The demand for land and growth in planning applications indicate this trend is long term and shows the confidence house builders, home buyers and investors have in the Boroughs economy.
There is a host of regeneration projects already underway and about to commence in Doncaster.
Doncaster Sheffield Airport is now the fastest growing Airport outside of London.
A new link road from the M18 has helped bring forward over 1.2 million passengers annually and a 400% growth in cargo traffic.
Around the Airport is over 400 acres of development land incorporating space for new hangar builds, warehousing and manufacturing space which encompasses a 30 acre Enterprise Zone.
The Iport adjacent to Junction 3 of the M18 is the largest industrial development under construction in the UK at present. The site, built on green belt by Verdion has 2 million sq. ft. of grade ‘A’ warehousing land already constructed with a further 4 million sq.ft. planned for development.
A 30 acre intermodal rail freight terminal opened in January 2018 and connects the site to all major sea ports.
The Unity project being developed by Waystone is a grand master plan, which proposes to transform almost 3 million sq ft. of brownfield land off Junction five of the M18 providing a sustainable new community. The development will see areas in the north of Doncaster transformed and plans incorporate up to 1,200 new homes by 2028 and up to 3100 by circa 2035.
New shops, learning and healthcare facilities, green open spaces for the local community and a new marina will be created to enhance their opportunity to live, work and play. This long term project has outline planning permission and it is anticipated that the scheme will generate up to 9,000 jobs and be responsible for in excess of £400 million of investment over the first 12 years.
Leisure and Tourism already strong in Doncaster is about to receive a further boost with the development of a new PGA European Tour Golf development. This world class golf course opportunity will put Doncaster on the global stage, as it will be only one of 25 developments in the world.
The fantastic parkland setting at Rossington Hall, a Grade II Listed Victorian Stately Home will provide a quality of development only experienced previously in London. The development will be built on a picturesque near - 500 acre site located 10km south of Doncaster and offers a tournament quality 18-hole golf course - designed by former Ryder Cup legend Neil Coles, a superb nine-hole club course, a clubhouse, leisure facilities and 500 aspirational homes set alongside the course. Public footpaths, cycle routes and bridleways will also be created so that all residents can enjoy the wide variety of green space, parkland and lakes.
Doncaster’s historic town centre has now started undergoing a real transformation. Strong transport links are about to become even stronger when Hitachi launch the new Azuma train onto the East Coast Main Line in 2018 meaning Doncaster will become only 75 minutes away from London. With a redeveloped station and City gateway now under construction Doncaster is now an attractive place to live for commuters looking for more affordable living
The Urban Centre Masterplan builds on previous successes in Doncaster and sets out a new framework for the development of the centre maximising its existing assets.
Key projects in the Masterplan include the City Gateway making Doncaster a friendly and welcoming place from our newly developed railway station, A new Enterprise market place will transform the award winning market into a 21st century leisure and retail destination with Doncaster's Corn Exchange, set in the heart of the markets, restored back to its former glory.
