Over 40 businesses descended upon the National College for High Speed Rail (19 June) for Doncaster’s first Manufacturing and Engineering Forum.
The unique event, organised by the council’s Business Doncaster team and Make UK, was set up to bring companies from the sector together with an aim of improving the supply chain within the borough.
Attendees benefitted from excellent networking opportunities and a range of expert talks from organisations such as Polypipe, Hitachi Rail and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). The hot discussion topics included robotics, innovation and the main theme of the morning – Industry 4.0.
Cllr Bill Mordue, Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Economic Development, said: “The highly informative event showcased what we’ve got in Doncaster already and the tremendous business eco system we are creating.
“We had a big turnout from our business community and through the exceptional speakers they learned that Industry 4.0 is something to be used rather than feared and it is easy to start the journey whether they are a small or large organisation.”
Judy Hart, CEO of Investors in Excellence, was one of the speakers on the day. She said: “The event was a great success, the people here received a number of different bite size presentations and that will give real value to put together a well-informed group for the future.”
Business Doncaster aim to hold the forum quarterly and any businesses interested in speaking at or attending future events should contact 01302 735555 and visit www.businessdoncaster.com for further information.
