Leading independent pharmacy chain, Weldricks, is offering a new online doctor service – Q Doctor – at 60 of their Yorkshire and Humber-based pharmacies.
‘Q Doctor’ is an innovative and efficient way for people who do not want to wait to see a GP, can’t get an appointment at their GP practice or simply don’t have the time to get to an appointment to have a consultation with a doctor via a secure, enabled device located in a private consulting room within a Weldricks pharmacy.
Explains Richard Wells, superintendent pharmacist for Weldricks: “Using a secure, online consultation in a private consultation room within a Weldricks pharmacy, Q Doctor can answer a variety of patient questions and concerns relating straightforward problems that don’t require a formal examination. These include muscle sprains/strains, indigestion, urine infections, sore throat and dermatology (skin complaints).
“Q Doctor can also undertake medication reviews and, in some cases, provide escalation of treatment if deemed necessary. It can give specific advice, prescriptions, sick notes or referrals for further specialist review or a letter to the patient’s GP.”
The Q Doctor service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and all of the doctors involved are based in the UK.
Continues Richard: “People can pop in to any of our participating pharmacies Monday to Friday between 1pm and 5pm, talk with a GP using Q Doctor and, if a prescription is required, that can be sent to us electronically and we can dispense it there and then thus saving even more time for the patient.”
An appointment with ‘Q Doctor’ is £20 plus the cost of any medication on prescription if needed. The service is available to over 18s and the patient must provide a valid form of ID.
Concludes Richard: “It’s our vision to improve access to healthcare everywhere and for everyone using this type of technology. We’re leading busier and busier lives but that shouldn’t have a detrimental effect on our health, that’s where Q Doctor works so well since it enables more people to access the right medical advice or treatment as and when they need it.”
