Trailer manufacturer Montracon is expecting to double output at its Doncaster curtainsider production facility after investing £4.2m in new equipment and processes.
Montracon, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, manufactures 45 curtain-sided trailers a week at the site, but with new spray booths and ovens, as well as improved production line processes, it is hoping to build up to 90 units a week.
New features include a higher roof, a semi automated shot blast and paint facility, machinery, tooling and lighting, as well as a chassis cooling area, paint kitchen, paint tanks and stainless pipe work for paint transfer. The refurbished facility includes five main halls and 35 individual production lines.
Production engineering manager Peter Wright said: “The revamp took less than a year to complete and we are pleased with the outcome. It’s a leap forward with the old-fashioned paint booths gone, and there is the potential to expand production to up to 100 trailers a week.
“The new processes will mean better health and safety standards, improved quality, decreased lead times and a lower impact on the environment.”
