More housing schemes get underway in Doncaster

Work has started on two further council house schemes in Doncaster which will see 66 quality new homes built for local residents.

To mark the construction getting underway, special 'breaking of the ground' ceremonies have taken place at Old Road in Conisbrough (41 homes) and Warde Avenue in Balby (25 homes).

The new council homes will be a mix of two, three and four bed houses and two bed bungalows and will be completed in summer 2019.

The developments are being delivered through a partnership between Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, Homes England and Willmott Dixon Construction Limited.

Cllr Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, said: "It is tremendous news that construction work is getting underway on two more important housing developments. We have built hundreds of new council homes over the past few years through our dedicated house build programme and work starting on these two new schemes shows our commitment to providing quality homes across our borough which will benefit Doncaster residents."

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive of St Leger Homes, said: “We look forward to managing these properties in Conisbrough and Balby, when building is completed next Summer. These new homes will be provided at an affordable rent, providing more housing opportunities for local people.”

Peter Owen, Managing Director, Willmott Dixon, said: “We are honoured to be working on another project with Doncaster Council to deliver 66 homes and marking the start on site. This is a great project that is helping to deliver much needed and affordable rented housing to local residents. We’ve supported Doncaster Council with the building of over 180 new homes over recent years and are looking forward to continuing to give local residents new places to live.”

Funding has come from a Homes England grant and the council’s capital programme.

St Leger Homes will manage and maintain the homes which will be let at an affordable rent to people who meet the local lettings policy criteria.

They will be advertised through the Doncaster HomeChoice website:
