Popular properties and sites in Doncaster helped drive a ‘phenomenally busy’ auction to sales of £4million.
Lots offered on behalf of South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire councils at the Mark Jenkinson and Son auction included the former Thorne Education Centre, which sold for nearly £100,000 more than its guide price.
The property, located on the Coulman Street industrial estate and with the potential for a variety of uses, was on at £150,000 but sold for £247,000.
Meanwhile a traditional three-bedroom semi-detached house on Richmond Street in Scawsby was expected to fetch between £65,000 and £75,000 but went for £89,000.
Adrian Little, Head of the Auction Department at Mark Jenkinson and Son, said: “This was a phenomenally busy auction – one of our busiest ever with a packed hall – thanks to the variety of properties on offer throughout the region, from the usual array of houses for modernisation, to landmark buildings and larger development and investment opportunities.
“We represented seven regional local authorities looking to cash in on assets and complete sales within the current tax year and, consequently, many of the lots were coming to the market for the first time and therefore proved very popular.
At the auction, held at The Platinum Suite, Sheffield United Football Club, Mark Jenkinson represented Doncaster housing services provider St Leger Homes as well as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Derbyshire County Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, North Lincolnshire Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Council.
The auction follows a successful start to 2017 for Mark Jenkinson and Son after the firm recorded the best results in Yorkshire and the Humber for 2016, in a report published by Essential Information (EI) Group.
Established in 1877, Mark Jenkinson and Son, which has offices in Sheffield and Chesterfield, is the largest independent firm of Chartered Surveyors in South Yorkshire.
