Supporting Social Enterprises with the Barrier Buster fund

Community groups, Social Enterprises, CIC’S and Charities are often the backbone of community life – and make the most difference to people. The Barrier Buster fund is available to the following groups in Doncaster who are supporting people or communities during the coronavirus pandemic:

  • Not-for profit voluntary or community organisations
  • Registered charities
  • Faith-based organisations
  • Not-for profit companies, community interest companies or social enterprises

The effects of social distancing, national restrictions, loss of family members and work is having a huge impact on the population’s mental health. Numerous social enterprises across Doncaster are responding to this need, finding creative ways to support people to keep healthy during these difficult times. The Community Wealth Builder programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Doncaster Council provides support for social businesses across the Sheffield City Region.

Doncaster Council wants to hear about how your organisation is supporting people to improve their health and wellbeing, and/or that of the local community throughout these unprecedented times. The fund is designed to help tackle specific barriers your organisation has in delivering these activities in response to the affect the pandemic is having across Doncaster.

Some example of eligible activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Tackling mental health problems through physical activity e.g. yoga, walking groups etc.
  • Counselling services
  • Food supplies for the vulnerable groups
  • Activities to alleviate social isolation and loneliness
  • Befriending services
  • Community projects with a health and wellbeing focus

The following activities may be funded:

  • Training costs
  • Equipment
  • Other capital costs e.g. marketing – specify in application

Or you can apply for a specific amount to fund the running of an activity for the benefit of a specified number of clients.  Support is funded and aims to help develop local communities through the work social enterprises do.

How much is the grant?

You can apply for a maximum of £500, and there is no minimum amount. Only one grant per organisation.

Individuals and Un-constituted groups

Monies from the fund will only be paid into a business bank not be paid directly to individuals or un-constituted groups. Individuals or groups who are un-constituted and/or do not have a bank account are advised to contact your local Well Doncaster Officer, in the first instance,  on 01302 736717 before completing the application form. They will discuss your idea with you and provide support.

When is the deadline to submit applications?

You can submit your application at any time, there is no deadline. Please submit all applications to Community.wealthbuilder@doncaster.gov.uk
